Netflix in Singapore

The broadest general catalogue available here, a genuine commitment to Southeast Asian originals, and a real gap where Chinese-language drama should be.

Netflix is the default for a reason: it has the broadest general catalogue in Singapore and the deepest bench of originals. If you are only going to pay for one service and you watch mostly in English, this is the one — with one significant caveat about Chinese-language content below.

What it is good for

Volume and range. Netflix carries more films and series in Singapore than any competitor, and unlike some markets, the Singapore library is close to the full international slate rather than a thin regional cut.

It is also the only service commissioning Southeast Asian originals at scale — Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian and Thai productions that get real budgets and international subtitling. For a viewer who wants regional work that is not Korean drama, nothing else is close.

  • The broadest general film and series catalogue in Singapore
  • Southeast Asian originals with real production budgets
  • Reliable English subtitles across almost the whole library
  • Strong Korean drama, though Viu is faster to new episodes

Where it falls short here

Chinese-language drama. Netflix's Mandarin and Cantonese libraries in Singapore are shallow, and almost nothing Mediacorp produced is on it. A household that watches Channel 8 will not be served by Netflix at all, and should treat meWATCH or one of the Mandarin platforms as the primary service rather than the supplement.

Malay and Tamil content is thinner still. Suria and Vasantham have no Netflix equivalent.

Languages and subtitles

English subtitles are close to universal, which is the strength. Chinese subtitles are inconsistent — common on Asian titles, patchy on Western ones. Malay and Tamil subtitle tracks exist on a minority of titles. If subtitles are the deciding factor, the Chinese subtitles page goes through this service by service.

Pricing shape

Several tiers, separated by resolution and simultaneous streams, with an ad-supported tier at the bottom. Netflix has moved its Singapore pricing more than once, so check the operator directly rather than trusting any figure written down elsewhere — including here.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Singapore Netflix catalogue smaller than the US one?
Somewhat, but far less than in most markets. Singapore gets close to the full international slate, and some regional content the US does not.
Does Netflix have Channel 8 drama?
Essentially no. Mediacorp's output lives on meWATCH. If Chinese-language drama is what you watch, Netflix should not be your only subscription.
Does Netflix carry films still in Singapore cinemas?
No. There is a gap of several months between a cinema release and any streaming release. While a film is still on, this site lists its sessions.
