Disney+ in Singapore

Unbeatable for a specific set of franchises, and the Star tier is where the general entertainment and Asian content sits.

Disney+ is worth paying for if you want Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar or the Disney animated library, and it is hard to justify if you do not. Everything else it carries in Singapore sits under the Star tier, which is bundled in here rather than sold separately.

What it is good for

Franchise depth, and exclusivity. These films and series are not licensed elsewhere, so if you want them there is no alternative service and no rental route. For a household with children the Disney animated back catalogue alone can carry the subscription.

The Star tier is the part people underestimate. In Singapore it carries general-entertainment series and a reasonable slate of Asian productions, including Korean and Japanese titles that do not appear on Netflix.

  • Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and the Disney animated library
  • The Star tier's general entertainment, included not extra
  • A growing Korean and Japanese slate under Star
  • Strong parental controls, which matter more here than most

Where it falls short here

Outside the franchises the catalogue is small next to Netflix, and it is not a service you browse — it is one you go to for something specific. There is very little Chinese-language content and essentially no Singaporean production.

The other common complaint is churn: because the draw is a handful of tentpole releases, many households subscribe for a month around a release and cancel. That is a rational use of it and worth planning deliberately.

Languages and subtitles

English subtitles throughout. Chinese subtitles are available on a good share of the catalogue, better than most competitors for Western titles. Dubbing into Mandarin exists on the children's library, which is genuinely useful for families raising children bilingually.

Pricing shape

A single subscription with the Star tier included, sold monthly or annually, with the annual option cheaper per month. Singtel and StarHub have both bundled it at various points — check your existing plan before subscribing directly.

Frequently asked questions

Is Star included or does it cost extra in Singapore?
Included. Unlike some markets where it is sold as a separate add-on, the Star tier comes with the standard Singapore subscription.
Is Disney+ worth it if I do not care about Marvel?
Usually not on its own. The Star tier has real content, but the catalogue outside the franchises is small next to Netflix or Prime Video.
